Binh Duong University’s 20 -Year Journey To Open Education

Founded on September 24, 1997, Binh Duong University has accompanied Binh Duong Province in its early days of re-establishment. In its 20 years of establishment and development, the school has kept up with its educational philosophy of Study-Ask-Understand – Act!, enabling  everyone to progress, becoming responsible citizens. Over the past 20 years, BDU has provided society with 70,000 students of various levels, of which 30,000 graduated, 500 of these being Masters. In light of his accomplishment, MOET assigned Binh Duong University with the task of  developing the doctoral program of education of Business Administration in Binh Duong.

In 2010, to facilitate students from remote rural areas to higher education, BDU invested in building up its subcampus in CaMau Province where more than 3,000 students are in pursuit of their study.

At present, the school has signed cooperate programs with 30 universities, colleges and institutions from 11 countries including Russia, Poland, US, UK, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Belarus, China, Laos and Cambodia. In respect of MOUs, the international counterparts constantly send faculties and experts to BDU for instruction and research. In 2010, the Russian Academy of Science and Technology selected BDU to set up its branch.

In 2016, the Korean government also selected BDU to set up itsSejong CulturalInstitute to develop language training and cultural exchange, providing the society with a workforce of good technical skills and language proficiency. BDU then signed with British Council to be the latter’s partner in offering language training and testing of English proficiency for the school’s faculty and students alike.

In the process of academic improvement and gaining accreditation by society, BDU spares no effort in hosting social activities and is in sending groups of teachers, students and staff to the rural countryside to learn how to innovate target zones.  BDU’s welfare fund has been spent to support the people of remote areas in building bridges, schools and houses. As of now, BDU has been caring for 100 Vietnamese “hero” mothers in Ca Mau’s districts of U Minh and Thoi Binh in an effort to pay tribute to the predecessors and maintain the national tradition of gratitude to benefactors.

In its 20 years of establishment and development, the staff of BDU has collectively spared no effort and commitment, creativity and social proactivity in constructing BDU, making it an ecological economics institution of multidisciplines with  multi – levels of graduate and postgraduate education in order to train a quality workforce for local socio-economic development.

The school brings together hundreds of scientists, domestic and international, to engage in conducting educational activities, technological research and various types of exchange; realizing hundreds of study research projects which are published in local and international magazines as well as applied in pratice.

Much study in open education was recorded in books, such as Such an Open University as This!, and Journey to Open Education published in 2010 and 2012 by Literature Publishing House, respectively. These two books convey many ideas and perspectives on education and the philosophy of education of the Party and Government. Particularly, another book For An Open Education: Open to Learn, Learn to Open, to be Responsible Citizens in an Open World helps to clarify the concept of educational globalization for an open world. These perspectives and concepts have been highly evaluated by scholars in and out of the country, taken  as a basis on which to set up and develop BDU, keys to secure its quality tertiary education.

BDU has brought together many scientists, from within and from outside of the country, to engage in educational and technological activities, and to construct the school’s institutional integrity for sustainable quality of its educational functions. In this sense, the school managed to set up cooperative ties with over 30 universities from the United States, Thailand, Poland, Belarus…

As a result, the educational quality and the technical facilities is becoming more secured and improving in terms of classrooms, labs, workshops, and sport hubs.

The school’s organizational and administrative mechanism functions in harmony in such a way that it offers good services and state policy-based remuneration and social insurance. Its entities of the Party, Trade Union, and Youth League function wellin their roles. The training and promotion of the inherent faculty and staff over 20 years has always been in good focus. 110 faculty members completed postgraduate education, 2 of whom won honorary notice; one, a brevet associate professor, and the other successfully defended his doctoral thesis in St Petersburg University, Russia.

The achievements of BDU over the past 20 years manage to bring BDUgood status in the national educational system, and win applaudable appreciation from its international partners who are involved in cooperative programs of training and scientific research. On this very basis, the school is gradually transforming into a complex of “education-science-technology-economics” to construct an open education of every people and for every people that every people may find equal rights to acquire the benefits of open education.
